Propane Energy For Home

Residential Propane Tanks

Propane is delivered as a liquid and your propane tank is equipped with a system of valves and regulators that convert liquid propane to gas and move it to the appliances in your home.

Avenir Energy can provide a wide range of propane tank sizes to meet the energy needs of your home or business. The size and number of tanks depends on several factors, such as the BTU load of your appliances, usage, delivery frequency, property spacing and local regulations. We can help determine the best size and right location for your tank, and our installations adhere to all local and national regulations and codes.

Winter Reminder

BE PREPARED

Keep a clear and safe pathway to your propane tank, including your driveway to make sure your winter deliveries are accessible.

Clear heavy snow and ice from tanks, gauges, fittings, lines, valves and vents. Use a broom to clear snow and ice - never a shovel.

BE SAFE

Look out for safety hazards such as heavy icicles or snow from the roof or eaves above and around your tank and its components.

Ensure that exterior vents are cleared of snow and ice to allow for proper ventilation and safe operation of your appliances.

Snow and ice can cover the tank's regulators and valves, restricting gas flow or causing pressure issues. Snow buildup keeps tanks cold, which restricts propane from vaporizing properly, leading to reduced gas flow and appliance performance issues.

Detecting a Propane Leak

Propane has mercaptan added to it giving it a distinct odor, often described as a “rotten egg” smell, which helps you quickly identify leaks. If you suspect a propane leak due to a persistent smell, follow these steps:

Don’t Panic

Leave the area immediately in an orderly manner if you suspect a propane leak.

Avoid Flames, Sparks and Electricity

Extinguish flames and do not use lights, appliances or phones.

Shut Off the Propane Supply

Turn off the tank supply by turning the handwheel clockwise (to the right) as far as possible unless the leak appears to be coming from that area.

Call for Help

Contact the fire department or dial 911 from a safe distance (at least 20 ft from the source of the leak).

Do not re-enter the area until it is deemed safe. Contact Avenir Energy to have a technician turn the propane back on to check and re-light your appliances.
